Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. Our baseline emissions cover all scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions relevant to the organisation’s operations, having conducted a full scope 3 inventory to ensure we are reporting on all applicable emissions categories. Liva Healthcare has set the organisation's Baseline Carbon Footprint year to 2024. The carbon footprint developed by Liva Healthcare is fully aligned with the GHG Protocol.
The following GHG Categories have been excluded from Liva Healthcare’s 2024 Carbon Footprint assessment:
- Scope 1.2 Mobile Combustion: Live Healthcare did not own or lease any vehicles during the reporting period.
- Scope 1.3 Fugitive Emissions: There were no top ups of refrigerant gas across office sites.
- Scope 3.9 Downstream Transportation and Distribution: All deliveries to end-users are paid for by Liva Healthcare, as such downstream deliveries have been accounted for within Scope 3.4 Upstream Transportation and Distribution in alignment with guidance from the GHG Protocol.
- Scope 3.10 Processing of Sold Products: No additional process applied to Liva’s sold products.
- Scope 3.12 End-of-Life Treatment of Sold Products: Liva Healthcare’s primary offering is online health services; the organisation offers a limited range of physical healthcare products. As such this category has been excluded on grounds of materiality and limited availability of suitable datasets. Liva Healthcare will continue to examine this source of emissions when completing future carbon footprint assessments.
- Scope 3.13 Downstream Leased Assets: Liva Healthcare did not own any assets which were leased out to third parties during this reporting period.
- Scope 3.14 Franchises: Liva Healthcare do not operate any franchise agreements.
- Scope 3.15 Investments: Not applicable to company operations.
Current Emissions Reporting
The Baseline Carbon Footprint completed by Liva Healthcare has been set for 2024, as such this is currently the most recent and complete dataset for the organisation’s Scope 1-3 carbon footprint considering all relevant categories. Liva Healthcare are aiming to develop this into an annual process and will update records accordingly to reflect any changes for future submissions.

Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress towards achieving Net Zero, Liva Healthcare have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
Liva Healthcare is committed to achieving net-zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2040 across the organisation’s UK operations, this is in alignment with the NHS long term Net Zero target. Liva Healthcare are also committed to taking a further step in targeting the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus goal set for 2045. Liva is committed to supporting the NHS to achieve the strategy laid out in the “Delivering a ‘Net Zero’ National Health Service” report on decarbonisation, carbon reduction, and a greener NHS. This baseline will now inform the updated targets which are outlined below.
It should be noted that Liva Healthcare have acquired Discover Momenta and its subsidiary Momenta Newcastle in February 2025. As such emissions associated with the operations of the newly acquired businesses will be considered and accounted within Liva Healthcare’s 2025 Carbon Footprint and all future assessments moving forward. It should be noted that Discover Momenta and Momenta Newcastle operate with no office space as all FTE work remotely. Momenta employees are required to travel to site for in-person delivery of services where required by the commissioner, the organisation has implemented a business travel policy to encourage employees to prioritise the use of public transport and the selection of local community venues which are easily accessible via public transport networks for all attendees.
Carbon Reduction Projects - Completed and Ongoing Carbon Reduction Initiatives:
1. Engaged with key suppliers.
- NUPO - Total Diet Replacement (TDR) product supplier change:
- In our nutritional product line, at the start of 2025 we have transitioned from whey-based products to predominantly soy-based total diet replacement (TDR) products, significantly lowering the carbon impact by shifting from animal-based to plant-based ingredients.
- Packaging and Logistics Suppliers:
- Where possible, we use recycled packaging materials and work with large-scale logistics providers with national reach to optimise delivery routes - reducing the need for additional last-mile journeys.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP):
- Liva Healthcare leverages Google Cloud Platform for corporate data storage, benefiting from Google’s industry-leading sustainability efforts. Google has been carbon-neutral since 2007 and is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030. The company is pioneering the use of 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) and currently operates its global infrastructure at an average of 64% CFE. Google Cloud also provides customers with tools like the Carbon Footprint dashboard and Active Assist, enabling organizations to monitor and reduce the emissions associated with their cloud usage.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS):
- Liva Healthcare uses Amazon Web Services for storing and processing end-user data, aligning with AWS’s ambitious climate targets. AWS aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and power all operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 - a milestone already met in 2023 through energy matching. AWS infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more energy efficient than traditional enterprise data centres, and optimized workloads on AWS can reduce carbon emissions by up to 99%. The Customer Carbon Footprint Tool allows organizations to track and manage the environmental impact of their AWS usage effectively.
2. Engagement with employees.
- Liva Healthcare engage with all employees through the implementation of staff training detailing organisational sustainability targets, the impact of travel, working from home and suitable alternatives for employees.
- In parallel, we are increasing the use of remote sessions through our integrated digital platform, reducing the need for travel altogether and supporting more sustainable care delivery. Internally, all staff receive training on our organisational sustainability goals, including the environmental impact of travel, the benefits of remote working, and guidance on making low-carbon choices in daily operations.
Future Reduction Initiatives
1. Apply for ISO14001 accreditation or at least align with the standard.
- Liva Healthcare are currently considering a suitable supplier to support us in achieving ISO 14001 certification. This internationally recognised standard will guide us in developing effective environmental management systems and identifying new areas for improvement.
2. Review our environmental performance annually to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Focus on developing key datasets to support granular emissions analysis of the organisation’s operations.
- To ensure accountability and transparency, we will establish clear metrics and benchmarks to monitor the progress and impact of our social value initiatives. Regular reporting will be conducted to share our achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement with our stakeholders, including users, investors, employees/staff, and the wider public/communities.
- Prioritise the collection of more accurate datasets for Scope 3 reporting. A key area of focus for the organisation is to improve the quality of datasets used to track emissions from remote workers, emissions which fall into category 3.7 Employee Commuting. Working closely with suppliers to improve the quality of data being provided for these assessments will also provide the organisation with a more detailed and reliable understanding of where key emissions hotspots are.
3. Reduce and Replace Natural Gas Consumption.
- Conduct feasibility tests to assess the potential to switch all Liva Healthcare sites to fully electric by transitioning demand for the use of natural gas and stationary combustion to Air source Heat pumps which are an electric and alternative to existing systems in place at Liva Healthcare sites.
4. Low Carbon Energy Consumption.
- Liva Healthcare are in the process of sourcing Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) Contracts for the provision of electricity at the current office spaces across the organisation. REGO contracts are a certification scheme to verify the origins of renewable electricity in the UK.
- Liva Healthcare will additionally assess existing utilities providers against environmental credentials such as the REGO scheme to ensure suppliers are aligned with Liva Healthcare’s target of transitioning to low carbon energy consumption. Liva Healthcare also have to opportunity to deploy green procurement policies across utility providers to ensure suppliers are obligated to support the organisations energy targets.
5. Supply Chain Engagement.
- Liva Healthcare will collaborate with suppliers to gain a greater understanding of emissions associated with Scope 3 categories. Currently Scope 3 emissions account for 80% (332.08 tCO2e) of emissions across the organisation for the 2024.
- This presents a key source of emissions for Liva Healthcare; by engaging with suppliers across Scope 3, the organisation will be able to gain greater understanding of emission hotspots and identify targets opportunities for emission reductions. This will further support the organisation in projecting and monitoring future Scope 3 emissions.
- As part of a longer-term strategy, we plan to - where possible - identify and work with companies who have already begun their sustainability journey and set organisational-level net zero targets. Working with Net Zero certified organisations will significantly aid in becoming a Net Zero company, as the majority of carbon emissions arise from the supply chain.
6. Business Travel / Employee Commuting Policy.
- Liva Healthcare will track location data for all business travel journeys completed by each employee, accounting for the distance travelled, the mode of transport used and where applicable to fuel type consumed for the journey.
- Liva Healthcare will implement a sustainable business travel policy across the organisation that seeks to minimise business travel and reduce associated emissions from this category.
- To support this, Liva Healthcare will introduce a ‘Remote by Default’ policy instigated for meetings and service delivery where appropriate.
- Liva Healthcare will introduce an annual staff commuting survey to accurately track, monitor, and report the modes of transport and associated emissions from employee commuting across the organisation. Liva Healthcare will also track detailed data on employee’s electricity and heating demands when working remotely.
7. Green Procurement Policy / Internal Liva Healthcare Engagement.
- Liva Healthcare will engage with any new suppliers through the implementation of a green procurement policy. This will help Liva Healthcare to identify suppliers with strong sustainability credentials that align with the organisation. This will further support and form part of a wider sustainability focused supply chain engagement strategy across Liva Healthcare to address scope 3 emissions.
- Liva Healthcare will continue to engage with internal stakeholders across the organisation by implementing mandatory ESG training for all staff and communicating the organisations results of the Carbon Footprint and wider sustainability initiatives to all staff within the business.
8. The health and wellbeing of our staff is critical to our green plan and is implemented through a range of initiatives.
- Cycle-to-work and car sharing scheme in place for staff.
- 100% of Liva employees in the UK are on remote or hybrid contracts.
- Laptop recycling scheme.
- “Donate-to-own” scheme: staff can donate to charity to purchase company laptops.
- Minimise printing (and associated waste/environmental impact) by using electronic document sharing (Google Suite and Docusign).
